Introducing project car rebuild issues, techniques, and progress documentation for our 1973 Corvette Coupe, 1969 Corvette Convertible, and 1968 AMX, along with any other cars we happen upon.
The 73 Corvette small block sat for approximately 15 years under cover before we purchased the car. The frame and birdcage are very solid, however, the engine, brake lines, front urethane cover and interior needed rebuilt or replaced.
Our very rough 1969 Corvette big block probably sat garaged 40+ years; the last plates we could find were 1974 Michigan. This corvette came stripped of paint, minus carpet, non running CE block. Mileage is 46k, probably all quarter miles, with 50 series Goodyear Polyglas! So far, my wife and I have lifted the body, powder coated the frame, rebuild the 512 casting 427, rebuilt original carb and alternator; the frame is a roller with all new suspension front to rear.
The 68 AMX was purchased barely drivable, as brakes and clutch needed immediate attention. Power brakes without a functioning booster are a little tough, and a clutch that had seen better days. We’ll look this once painted AMX over this winter, listing it’s many mechanical problems, hopefully by Spring, we’ll have a safe car. Other than mechanical issues, the body is a very solid former California AMX. Hopefully the old Ford style shifter will be replaced with an original Hurst Competition Plus Shifter we sourced. This will be a fun fast day tripper
